Discernment-in-Business—through a Kingdom Lens
Discernment is a gift, a survival mechanism, and a virtue—not a criminal offense. At its core, true discernment is the practiced habit of making wise distinctions, carefully separating truth from error, and thoughtfully evaluating people, situations, and motives with deep clarity and moral insight.
It requires patience, humility, and the courage to act on convictions formed by sound judgment. It is called “Perception,” and highlights the ability to see, or notice the truth of a situation. Human Perception is “limited!”
Discernment in a Kingdom business means recognizing truth from falsehood, good from bad, and God's will from misleading or self-serving options.
It looks past surface appearances to grasp a situation’s deeper meaning, true worth, and likely direction.
It replaces depending only on secular data or gut feelings with judging every decision according to Scriptural principles.
Discernment prevents entrepreneurs from mistaking a profitable deal, a hot trend, or a persuasive partner for God’s blessing when it goes against biblical ethics.
Applying Discernment to Work and Leadership
Christian business leaders can use discernment daily by practicing these habits:
In hiring and partnering: Choose people whose character, calling, and Kingdom Christian values match your mission—not just those with the right resume.
Ethics over profit: Put integrity before maximum gain; be willing to turn away clients, tricks, or unfair profits that conflict with your values.
Focus over distraction: Avoid shiny-object syndrome by asking for wisdom to say ‘NO” to projects that pull you away from your core calling.
God has raised up a generation of Kingdom believers and Leaders who refuse to be easily deceived by “empty familial rhetoric” or “superficial charismatic charm.” They are discerning, resilient, and committed to truth, spiritual maturity, and genuine integrity in both word and deed.
We have entered a season where the enemy is now…not just coming as a roaring lion, but “full-on,” as an “angel of light.”
He will employ familiar language, spiritual jargon, and even “put into operation” the name of the Lord,” to conceal his true intentions!
But the Spirit of Truth is releasing a biting sharp-tasting, and penetrating discernment, that powerfully cuts through every deceptive facade.
When your spirit is attuned to the Spirit of Truth, you do not just hear the words being spoken; you weigh the spirit behind them. You will sense the manipulation, and control, and ulterior motives hiding behind every “good will” and “God bless you!”
Not every smile and blessing springs from a pure and sincere heart.
Are your spiritual eyes sufficiently open and discerning to perceive the difference?
This is about walking in “prophetic intelligence,” (the spiritual capacity to perceive current cultural realities, understand times of change, and determine actionable, strategic responses.
Do not apologize for the boundaries your discernment compels you to establish. God is faithfully protecting you from “unseen traps” and from “unholy alliances,” that seek to harm or derail your path.
Guard your heart, continually hone and sharpen your spiritual senses, and confidently walk in the steady, unwavering authority of God’s truth.
“But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.” (Hebrews 5:14)
